2 正文逐句解析

The Silk Road went from China to Eastern Europe.

From……to…… 从……到……(既可以指时间，也可以指地点)

It went along the north of China, India, and Persia and ended up in Eastern Europe near today"s Turkey and the Mediterranean Sea.

这句话讲的是丝绸之路的起止地点，用and连接的两个并列谓语。Along，沿着。End up ，结束。里面出现的陌生的地名名称有：Persia 波斯；Turkey 土耳其；the Mediterranean Sea 地中海。

It was called the Silk Road because one of the major products traded was silk cloth from China.

这句话首先是一个被动语态的句子，“was called”。后面由because引导的原因状语从句，在这个原因状语从句里面，是一个“主系表”的结构的句子。最重要的是里面有个“traded”单词，这是一个过去分词作后置定语的结构，“traded”来修饰“products”，意思是：被交易的产品。

Chinese silk was soft and of high quality.

Be of high quality 质量上乘。

So people throughout Asia and Europe loved it very much.

throughout Asia and Europe 整个亚洲和欧洲，这一部分修饰前面的people。

Call：意思很多。有打电话，称呼，大喊大叫的意思。在这里是称呼的意思。

Most of the goods was expensive.

Goods：货物。

This was because it was a long trip and traders didn"t have a lot of room for goods.

这个句子首先是由and连接的两个并列从句。And的前面是一个表语从句，后面是一个主谓宾的句子。Room：在这里是空间的意思，不可数名词。这个单词作房间的时候是可数名词。

They bought goods like cotton, ivory, wool, gold, and silver.

Ivory:象牙。Wool：羊毛。Silver：银。

Traders traveled in large caravans.

Caravans：商队。In large caravans：以大商队的形式。

They would have many guards with them.

Guard：护卫。

23 （ ）Most of the road was through dry land.

Through 穿过。Dry land 干燥的陆地。

So camels were popular animals for transport.

Camel：骆驼。Transport：交通工具。

Although there was some trade between China and the rest of the world for some time, the silk trade developed quickly during the Han Dynasty which ruled from 206 BC to 220 AD.

Although：尽管的意思，是一个连词。注意英语中的连词只能用一个原则，就是前一句出现although，后一句就不能再用but。或者后面出现but，前面就不能用although。Develop：发展。Quickly修饰develop，形容发展很快的意思。

Mongols：蒙古人。Safely：副词，安全地。

Also, traders had a higher social position during the Mongol rule.

A higher social position：一个更高的社会地位。Rule：规则，统治。在这里是统治的意思。
