「过去进行时」

通常表示在过去某时间内正在进行或发生的动作。

如：I was watching TV at 4:00 p.m. yesterday.

Tom was having classes yesterday morning.

They were building a bridge last year.

We were doing our homework at 4:00 last night.

「过去进行时的形式」

① 第一人称单数（I）/第三人称单数（he/she/it）+was+现在分词

如：Ten minutes later，I was sittingin the classroom.

It was raininglast week.

② 第二人称单数（you）/各人称复数（we/you/they）+were+现在分词

如：Tom and Ann were peelingapples.

What wereyou doing at nine last night？

「过去进行时的基本用法」

① 表示过去某个时刻正在进行着的动作，常与at 7 o"clock（在七点）、at that time（在那时）等表示具体时间的短语连用。

如：Dad was washingthe car at 7:30 yesterday morning.

They were picking apples in the garden at that time.

② 表示过去某一段时间内一直在进行的动作，常与last week（上星期）、last year（去年）等表示一段时间的短语连用。

如：We were paintinga picture last week.

I was stayingin my hometown last year.

「特别关注」

过去进行时还可以与 when引导的时间状语从句连用，表示“当……时，正在……”的意思。如：

Tom was cooking when the telephone rang.

Most people were sleeping when the earthquake happened.

通过语境对句子进行分析推敲，准确理解句子所要表达的意义，从而确定使用哪种动词时态？判断应用哪种动词时态表达更恰当？

语言的学习，要在“应用中”提高，提高到将其转化为自己掌握的一项“技能”的程度。
