英语的特点是有各种同音的词汇，即发音相似但意义不同的词。比较容易混淆的单词是“there”、“their”和“they’re”，这三个单词发音相同相似，尤其在实际交流中，“歪果仁”连读的情况会让人更难区分三者间的区别。

How to Use "There"

“There”是一个代词，常用于句首，也是一个副词，意为“at that place在那个地方”。

“There”作为代词时，there是语法上的虚词，通常用来引出名词或从句:

Thereis a house on the hill.山上有一所房子。

Thereis something I need to talk to you about.有些事我得跟你谈谈。

There也可以作为副词用于表示地点。它的意思和“here”相反:

I need to find out what"s going on over there.我要知道那边发生了什么事。

She loved France and often thought about taking another trip there.她喜欢法国，经常考虑再一次去那里旅行。

有时候“there”的两个用法会出现在同一个句子中:

Thereare two boys hiding over there.有两个男孩躲在那边。

How to Use "Their"

“Their”是“they”的物主代词。它用来表示某物属于复数主语:

Theirhands are in their pockets.他们的手放在他们的口袋里。

The kids were eager to finish playing theirgame.孩子们渴望完成他们的游戏。

How to Use "They"re"

“They"re”是“They are”的缩写。它和其他的缩写没有什么区别，跟“you’re”(“you are”)、“can’t”(“can not”)一样。

“They’re”可以在很多非正式的上下文中使用，当然也可以使用“They are”的形式:

Alligators are dangerous, but they"realso lazy.短吻鳄很危险，但它们也很懒。

They"relooking for a way to fix the problem.他们正在寻找解决问题的方法。

“There”指的是地点：如果你在谈论某人或某物所处的位置，就用“There”：

Jimmy"s keys are not here; he must have left them back thereat the office. 吉米的钥匙不在这里;他一定是把它们忘在办公室了。

“There”也可以用来介绍一个新的主题：

Thereare many excellent recipes in the cookbook.烹饪书里有许多很棒的食谱。

“Their”指的是谁的东西：如果你谈论的东西属于某人或其他东西，就用“Their”这个词：

The ducks are very loud today; theirhonking can be heard for miles around.今天的鸭子很吵;他们的叫声几英里外都能听到。

“They’re”是一个缩写:作为“They are”的缩写，“They’re”可以在任何可以替代“They are”的上下文中使用：
