文章内容节选自China shoppers adopt facial recognition payment technology一文。
标题里面的China shoppers adopt facial recognition payment technology，其实我们也可以写为China shoppers adopt facial recognition payment methods.
其中“刷脸支付”就可以说facial recognition payment或face-scan payment，外刊里面也有见直接使用pay with your face的。
第一段和第二段是在介绍背景：人脸识别技术在中国得到了广泛应用；阿里巴巴推出“刷脸支付”服务。

第一段
原文：
The software is already widely used, often to monitor citizens; it has been credited with nabbing jaywalkers and catching criminals.
高斋参考译文：
人脸识别技术在中国已经得到了广泛应用，通常用于对市民进行监控。它可以发现乱穿马路者，帮助抓获罪犯。
1. 写作句型：今天这句话是很好的写作句型，今年上外高翻MTI写作就考的类似于这个话题，平时有积累的话，这个句型完全就可以借用了。
it has been credited with nabbing jaywalkers and catching criminals句型很不错，比it can help identify jaywalkers and spot suspects更高级。当然，英语写作中不是都使用高级句型，这样也不见得好，最好就是高级句型和简单句型、长短句交替使用。
2. 同义词替换：is widely used意思是“得到广泛应用”，也可以说has been widely used,is becoming/is ubiquitous，has been popular.
3. 精彩表达：be credited with在这里表示“认为有……的功劳；赢得赞誉”。比如经济学人上的这句话：
Mr Jobs was the driving force behind Apple and is widely credited with revolutionising the personal-technology industry.
乔布斯推动了苹果公司的发展并因彻底改变了个人科技产业而赢得大家广泛赞誉。
今天的这句话不好直译，翻译时需要意译。
4. jaywalkers指“乱穿马路的人”。
5. 同义词替换：nab的本意是“抓住，逮捕”，nabbing和catching/identifying表达同一含义，可以互换。
但这里不能说抓住乱穿马路的人，实际上是通过人脸识别系统将人识别出来以后再进行惩罚的意思，也就是identity jaywalkers.

原文：
Alipay, the financial arm of e-commerce giant Alibaba, has been leading the charge in China with devices already in 100 cities. The firm is predicting enormous growth in the sector and recently launched an upgrade of its "Smile-to-Pay" system, using a machine roughly the size of an iPad.

中国电商巨头阿里巴巴旗下金融部门支付宝（Alipay）已经在全国100个城市率先推出了刷脸支付服务。阿里巴巴预计该行业将迎来巨大发展空间，近期推出了升级版的“微笑支付”（"Smile-to-Pay"）系统，使用的机器大小和一个iPad差不多。
1. 熟词偏意：the financial arm中的arm在这里表示“分支机构，部门”。这种用法很常见，如the research arm of the company公司的科研部门。“the financial arm”指“金融部门”。
记住对支付宝的英文简介：Alipay, the financial arm of e-commerce giant Alibaba。
2. 同义词替换：e-commerce giant Alibaba当作固定表达来记，指“中国电商巨头阿里巴巴”。移动支付巨头就可以说Mobile payment giant Alipay。
“巨头”除了用giant这个词，还可以说powerhouse，heavyweight，behemoth。
3. 固定表达：lead the charge是固定搭配，意思是“率先，领导，带头冲锋”。如金融时报上说：
With China last year overtaking Japan as the world"s second largest economy, its companies are leading the charge.
随着去年中国超过日本，成为全球第二大经济体，中国企业率先发力。
也可以说take the lead。
所以原文的has been leading the charge in China也可以说has taken the lead in rolling out facial recognition payment technology in China.
4. 语法分析：with devices already in 100 cities是伴随的具体体现，是lead the charge的具体数据体现。但翻译的时候灵活翻译哈。
5. 比较级：using a machine roughly the size of an iPad完整的是using a machine that is roughly the size of an iPad，可见，提到什么的大小可以直接说the size of sth：
This room is the size of that one.
这间屋子和那间一样大。
也可以直接说as large as。
6. 介绍“微笑支付”（"Smile-to-Pay"）：
Facial recognition technology allows a customer to pay by literally flashing（出示，展示） a smile.
从这里我们可以知道“扫码支付”就可以说scan to pay。
7. 句子改写：launched an upgrade of its "Smile-to-Pay" system表示推出了升级版的“微笑支付”（"Smile-to-Pay"）系统。
其中launch这个词在外刊中已经见过很多次了，表示“推出（新产品、服务、业务、计划等）”。它的同义词是announce，introduce，debut，roll out。
所以and recently launched an upgrade of its "Smile-to-Pay" system这部分也可以改写为：and recently announced a major upgrade of its "Smile-to-Pay" service。
8. 写作拓展：这次翻硕有学校好像考了a cashless society，如果引出背景介绍，在中国，许多城市的大小商店已经应用了刷脸支付技术，给消费者带来了诸多便利，就可以说：
In cities around China, outlets ranging from supermarkets to bakeries have been adopting facial recognition payment technology,bringing greater convenience to consumers.
接下来说安全隐患和虚荣心作祟。

原文：
But for many consumers, it is vanity rather than privacy that puts them off using such systems. A poll by news portal Sina Technology found that more than six in 10 respondents said scanning their faces for payments made them feel "ugly".
高斋参考译文：
然而对许多消费者而言，他们不愿意使用这一系统并不是出于隐私担忧，而是虚荣心作祟。新浪科技的一项调查发现，超过六成的受访者表示刷脸支付时他们会觉得自己“不好看”。
1. it is vanity rather than privacy that中包含一个强调句型，“it is A rather than B”当作一个固定句型来记，意思是“是……而不是……”。
2. 一词多义：put off是固定搭配，它有很多含义。它可以表示“推迟，拖延；敷衍，搪塞”，可以表示“使分心，搅扰”，它还可以表示“使反感；使对……失去兴趣”。
今天这句话中的puts off取最后一层含义，表示“使反感”。
puts them off using such systems意思就是使他们不愿意使用这一系统。所以it is vanity rather than privacy是在说明原因，所以灵活翻译为“他们不愿意使用这一系统并不是出于……，而是……”。
3. 写作句型：A poll by ... found that当作固定句型来记，指“……的一项调查发现”。其中found也可以说showed，suggested，revealed，还可以写为according to a poll by ...。如经济学人例句：
By late August only 47% supported the bid, according to a poll by the Chicago Tribune.
8月末，芝加哥论坛报的一份调查显示申奥支持率只有47%。
4. 翻译思维：news portal是固定表达，指“新闻门户网站”，今天这个news portal Sina Technology不需要说“新闻门户网站新浪科技”，直接翻译为“新浪科技”就可以了。
5. 固定表达：more than six in 10 respondents表示“超过六成受访者”。注意这里的“more than six in 10”表示的是比例，而非一个具体的数字，意思是“超过六成，60%以上，每10个人中就有6人”。
也可以说“more than 60 percent of”、“over 60 per cent of”。
6. 同义词替换：scanning their faces for payments表示“刷脸支付”，还可以说completing payments with their faces，making payments by simply scanning their faces.
注意：因为是their，这里是复数payments，指不同人的支付。

第四段
原文：
In response, Alipay pledged to introduce "beautifying filters" into all the Alipay cameras. It said: "Now your face will be more beautiful than using a beauty camera!"
高斋参考译文：
对此，支付宝承诺将在所有的支付宝相机中加入“美颜滤镜”。它表示：“现在刷脸支付时你的样子会比使用美颜相机还漂亮！”
1. beautifying filters是固定表达，指“美颜滤镜”，后面的a beauty camera表示“美颜相机”。
我们说中国人尤其喜欢使用美颜滤镜，就可以说Chinese consumers are among the most avid users of beauty filters。
2. 句子改写：这句话中的introduce也可以说roll out。这整句话可以改写为：
Alipay pledged to roll out beautifying filters for all of its offline facial-recognition payment systems: be ware you’ll then look even better than in a beauty camera!
注意介词搭配，introduce "beautifying filters" into the cameras，roll out beautifying filters for its systems。
还可以用add to，即：
Alipay pledged to add beauty filters to its facial-recognition payment systems all across China.
your face will be more beautiful than using a beauty camera也可以说 you will be more beautiful than using a beauty camera或you’ll then look even better than in a beauty camera.
