语言学（Linguistics）

一、概念（Definition）

语言学是把语言作为研究对象的一个领域或一门科学。

Linguistics is generally defined as the scientific study of language.

注：语言学的学习和研究不是一门特定的语言，是所有语言的学习和研究。

Linguistics studies not any particular language, e.g. English, Chinese, Arabic and Latin, but it studies languages in general.

1. Prescriptive规定性 vs.Descriptive描述性

Prescriptive规定性：aims to lay down rules for “correct and standard”behaviour in using language (“should be”）

【对应的语言学】→Prescrictive linguistics规定语言学：规定正确的用法规则。

Descriptive描述性：aims to describe and analyze the language people actually use.( “be”) 描述和分析语言

【对应的语言学】→Descriptive描写语言学：记录语言实际的用法；是对某一历史阶段的语音特点、语法、词汇的观察与分析研究

2. Synchronic 共时性 vs. Diachronic历时性

Synchronic 共时性：The description of a language at some point of time in history.

(语言在历史发展阶段某一阶段的情况) eg.研究1800年的英语发音

【对应的语言学】→Synchronic 共时语言学

Diachronic历时性：A diachronic study of language is a historical study;its studies the historical development of language over a period of time.

(记录语言在较长的历史时期中所经历的变化) eg.研究1800年-1900年法语语言

3. Speech and writing 口语和书写

Speech and writing are two major media of communication. 交流媒介

Speech is primary over writing. 口语比书写要基础。

4. Langue/la:g/ and Parole/p’rul/ 语言和言语

瑞士语言学家（Swiss linguistics）索绪尔（ F.de Saussure）提出。

Langue语言：abstract

Parole言语：concrete

5. Competence and Performance 语言能力和语言运用

The distinction between competence and performance was proposed by the American linguistics N.Chomsky in the 1950s.乔姆斯基提出

Competence：idealuser"s knowledge of the rules of his language

（说本族语的人可以理解并说出从来没有听过的句子的能力，是指掌握某 一语言所有话语的基础的代码的能力。）简单理解就是“语言知识储备”

Performance：actual realizationof this knowledge in linguistic communication

（指上述代码在使用语言的实际情况中的表现，即指话语本身）
