雅思写作：小作文常见错误 占了几条（10月19日的烤鸭占了几条）
大部分雅思考生参加的是A类考试，A=academic，这决定了考生必须确保作文的语体是学术风格的(academic style)。学术风格虽然不意味要使用专业的学术学科词汇，但选词要足够正式、精确。这也导致了关于小作文的遣词造句有诸多细碎的要求，写作有6分及其以上要求的考生要避免触碰这些雷区。
1. hundred\thousand\million和billion放在具体数字时候，不能写成复数形式，正确的应该是 72 billion 。它们只能在固定的短语搭配中写成复数，如：in thousands、millions of。
2. quantity按照牛津字典中的解释(the amount or number of a material or immaterial thing not usually estimated by spatial measurement)，既可以用来指可数名词的数量，也可以表示不可数名词的数量。但是在实际应用中和考官范文里，quantity主要用以指不可数名词的数量。
3. 线图只能表达成line graph，切记line chart是错误的。表格、饼图和柱图才属于chart。
4. 在描述升和降的趋势时，不可以使用ascend和descend。这两个单词指物体发生的位移： an object moves up or down。但数据图中的升降趋势体现的是数字的增减变化。
5. 描述升和降的动词都是不及物的，没有宾语，因此也没有被动语态的变化，万万不能表达成 The consumption of beef was increased。同理，也不会使用raise描述上升，更不会用reduce表达下降，它们是及物动词。
6. 在描述百分数时，不可以使用take up和occupy来表达“占据”多少百分比。它们指的是占据空间和时间(fill a space or time)。正确的动词和短语是account for\make up和constitute。
7. percentage和proportion是一组高频的替换词，但是不能使用rate和ratio来表达比例。
8. account for\make up和constitute的主语不可以是the percentage/proportion/number/quantity of，它们的主语是人或者物。
9. outnumber这个动词的主语必须是可数名词复数，不可以用不可数名词作主语。正确的使用可参考剑4Test3范文中的句子：Men with postgraduate diplomas clearly outnumbered their female counterparts.
10. 在线图和柱图中，估取数字时尽量在数字前加上“大约”，以确保严谨。“大约”的词汇有：about\around\approximately\roughly。表格和饼图中的数字是精确的，因此不必加“大约”。
11. 引用数据时，通常不使用定语从句，尝试使用介词，如：North America had a lower proportion of degraded land, which was only 5%(错误)。North America had a lower proportion of degraded land, at merely 5%(正确)。Beef was by far the most popular of these foods, with approximately 220 grams consumed per person per week.
12. 使用分词状语时，compared with是正确的，通常不存在comparing with。
13. 表示数量差距时，不要使用divide，地道的词汇是gap，差距的增大和缩小分别是动词widen和narrow，它们是不及物动词。参考剑9Test2范文例句：The gap between the three categories had narrowed considerably in the second half of the period。
14. 可以用the figure for来替换the percentage/number/quantity of，但是不要使用data。data指facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis，是数据的集合。
15. 流程图中的常用名词里，equipment是不可数的，facilties是可数名词。
16. 搜索得来的“范文”通常是非官方渠道来源的，需要权威范文的考生和参考剑桥真题后方或向我索要。
