第一步：总体把握句子框架；

【解析】这是一个主从复合句，knowing we can have more can also create a problem是主句，Because引导的是原因状语从句，从句中又套从句，并且出现了倒装结构；

第二步：从连词出现的地方切分句子；

【解析】句中的连词分别是because，when，that，what,从这些连词出现的地方把句子切分成几部分；

第三步：层层分析句子；

【一级主句】Yet knowing we can have more can also create a problem,

【解析】这是主句，“主+谓+宾”结构，主语是动名词短语knowing we can have more can，这里的can用作名词，意思是“可能”，knowing后是省略了that的宾语从句；

【翻译】但知道我们可以有更多的可能也会产生问题，

【一级从句】because when we go to change the way we do things,

【解析】在because引导的原因状语从句中，又包含了一个复合句，其中when we go to change the way we do things是时间状语从句，下边的up come the old patterns and pitfalls是主句；

【翻译】因为当我们去改变做事情的方式时

第四步--第七步：

识别出倒装结构；找出倒装句的主语；调整倒装句的语序；把握倒装部分句意；

【二级主句】up come the old patterns and pitfalls

【解析】这是个倒装语序，倒装句的主语是the old patterns，调整语序后，正常语序应该是the old patterns and pitfalls come up，理解的时候按正常语序。

【翻译】旧模式和陷阱会首先跳出来，

【二级从句】that stopped us from seeking what we wanted in the first place.

【解析】这是定语从句，修饰前边的先行词the old patterns and pitfalls，这里翻译的时候不必把定语从句翻译到先行词前边，而是直接把that替换成先行词。what we wanted是个宾语从句，做seeking的宾语；

【翻译】阻止我们追求最想要的东西。

第八步：总体把握句子大意：

【全句翻译】但知道我们可以有更多的可能也会产生问题，因为当我们去改变做事情的方式时，旧模式和陷阱会首先跳出来阻止我们追求最想要的东西。
