时间状语“by+时间点”与主动词时态之间的关系

今天分享100句托福雅思经典句子的第二十七句，重点是“by+时间点”的用法。

By the middle of the twentieth century, painters and sculptors in the United States had begun to exert a great worldwide influence over art.到了二十一世纪中叶，美国画家和雕塑家开始在世界范围内对艺术产生重大影响。

句型结构：这是一个“主-谓-宾”的简单句，主干为painters and sculptors had begun to exert influence, 前面by the middle of the twentieth century是时间状语修饰整个句子，in the United States是介词短语作定语修饰主语painters and sculptors，great worldwide是定语限制influence，over art是介词短语作状语。

知识点1：时间状语：By+时间点

By后的时间点可以是过去、现在和将来的时间点。我们知道，By常与完成时联系在一起，但有时也有其他的情况，如偶尔会用一般时和进行时。“By+时间点”与主句动词时态的关系有如下几种情况：

第一，当主句的动词动作性比较强时，主句一般用完成时。

【例】By the time Tom was ten years old, he had learned English all by himself.

完成时态包含现在完成时、过去完成时、将来完成时，主句到底是用现在完成时，过去完成时，还是将来完成时，要看时间点是现在、过去还是将来的。本例句的时间点是the middle of the twentieth century，是过去的时间点，所以用过去完成时。

但当by后的时间点为将来，且主句的动作发生在从句的动作之后时，主句可用一般时。

【例】If you are not better by then, I will take you to see the doctor.

有时候还会用进行时态

【例】By the end of last week, the director of the department was saying very nice things about me.

第二，当主句的动词表状态，一般用一般时态。

【例】By the end of the century the population numbered about 13 million.

如果是要强调某状态在某时间前已经完成，也会用完成时态。

【例】By next Monday, you will have stayed with us for 1 months.

第三，当主句为祈使句时，一般用一般时态

【例】Please finish the project by the end of the week.

第四，如果是要强调某状态或动作在某时间为止还要继续进行，可用完成进行时。

【例】By the time Tom join in the company, I shall have been working here for 3 years.

By+时间点，at+时间点，on+时间点，in+时间点的区别：

第一，by+时间点：表一个时间段，从某时到这个时间点以前之止

【例】complete this project by 10 am tomorrow. 从说这句话开始到明天上午10点前这个时间段内任何一个时间点完成即可

第二，at+时间点，on+时间点，in+时间点：都是表就在这个时间点，只是两者后面的时间不一样

【例】complete this project at 10 am tomorrow 在明天上午10点完成

【例】complete this project in this evening.

【例】completed this project on September, 18th.

at, on, in的区别如下图：

知识点2：exert an influence over sb/sth 对sb/sth施加影响

exert a great worldwide influence over art.这里为什么要用over art，用on art也一样能说得过去。两者的差别是：用over的范围更广。这里为了强调影响非常大，所以用over。
