英语写作中的no和not的六大使用规则
在英语写作中要用到no和not时,一般要遵循以下六个规则:
规则1:“No+名词”意思与“not+a/the+名词”意思相似。没有“Not+名词”这一用法。我们不能说:We have not reason to suppose that。
例如:
There is no reason to suppose that…=there is not a reason to suppose that …
规则2: “No+名词”通常通常可以用“not+动词+any+名词”替换。
例如:
We encountered no problems with the calculations= we did not encounter any problems with the calculations.
规则3: be后面的形容词如果没有加名词,则前面加not;如果后面有名词,则要用no。
例如:
It is not unusual to find strange species in this area.
There are no unusual species in this area.
规则4: 副词前要使用not:
例如:
Not surprisingly, the cardiovascular system is the first organ system to reach a functional state in an embryo.
规则5:No longer可以写成较不正式的not…any more/longer。
例如:
This system is no longer used.
This system is not used any more.
This system is not used any longer.
三句话意思一样。
规则6:“No+形容词比较级”表示相比较的两个事物是相同的,例如A is no bigger than B, 表示A并不比B大。
比较下面两个例句:
X turns out to be no easier than Y. (言外之意: X and Y have the same level of difficulty)
X is not easier to solve than Y. (言外之意:Y is probably easier to solve than X)
