现在分词作定语和状语的区别

一．现在分词作定语

1）形式：现在分词作定语时，只能用doing（sth)和being done两种形式

2）意义：doing(sth)表示主动、动作正在进行或现在（当时）的状态。being done表示被动、动作正在进行。

3）位置：单个的现在分词（就是一个词）作定语时，通常放在被修饰词之前；现在分词短语作定语时，通常放在被修饰词之后，即做后置定语。

4）扩展成句：现在分词短语作后置定语时可扩展成定语从句。

5）现在分词（短语）doing（sth)所表示的动作与被修饰名词或代词之间是逻辑主谓关系，即是被修饰名词或代词所发出的；而being done所表示的动作是被修饰名词或代词所承受的。

二．现在分词作定语和状语的区别

1）现在分词短语作后置定语时一般紧跟在所修饰的名词或代词后面，但也有跟所修饰的名词或代词之间隔开几个词的情况，但一般与主句都无逗号隔开。

2）而现在分词作状语时，要与主句用逗号隔开。

I am only able to look at nature through dirty curtains hanging before very dusty windows.

我只能透过脏兮兮的窗帘观看大自然，窗帘悬挂在沾满灰尘的窗前。

hanging before very dusty windows是现在分词短语，作定语，修饰前面的curtains.

Don’t wake up the sleeping boy.不要吵醒这个正在睡觉的男孩。

sleeping作定语，修饰后面的boy;因为是单独的一个词，所以放在boy前面。

Will the people sitting at the back(= who are sitting at the back) keep quiet? 坐在后面的人保持安静，好吗？

sitting at the back作定语，修饰前面的the people.

The matter being discussed is very important.

正在讨论的事情很重要。

being discussed修饰前面的the matter.
