阅读英语时，“音形义”都必须是英语的，你做到了吗？
She said that the hair on his head was growing back a little. He was surprised to hear that. He had never heard of hair growing back. Cancer victims who get chemotherapy often lose their hair. It often grows back. But he hadn"t had chemotherapy. He asked if she was sure. He couldn"t see any new hair. Yes, she was sure. His hairline was "proceeding1" instead of receding2, she said. She said that she was growing hair, too. "I never used to have hair on my legs," she said. Now she was growing some hair on her legs. She showed him her legs. He couldn"t see any hair. He asked her if she had been drinking. She said of course not. "Do you doubt me?" she asked. He said no, of course not. He was just joking. But the next day he made an appointment with an eye doctor.
这是一篇高中水平的英语。从语言的“音形义”三要素上判断，如果你在阅读（默读）这篇英语时脑中出现的“音形义”三者“都不是英语的”，而是中文的，也就是词汇的“音”必须是英语的发音，“理解”英语词句的“义”也必须是英语的，也就是“英语之外有英语”（因为不涉及写作，要求单词写出来时一个字母都不出错，所以，这里的“形”可以不加考虑）。如果“音”是中文的发音（词句被翻译成中文了），“义”也是中文的（用中文理解英语），那么可以断定，你离真正的掌握英语这门语言还有相当长的路要走。
以下仅举几个例子加以说明：
你阅读（默读）She said that the hair on his head was growing back a little这句英语时，是直接“读”成英语 She said that the hair on his head was growing back a little，还是“读”成大致如下的中文“她说他头上的头发又长回来一点点了”？
如果你是把英语 She said that the hair on his head was growing back a little流畅地直接读成英语She said that the hair on his head was growing back a little，而且因为这只是高中程度的英语，应该是不用“回读”，而是一次读下去就能“明白”里面的英语意思。这就叫做“音是英语的音”。它说明你的英语口语应该不错，否则你会发现自己的英语不仅读的不好，反应到口语上也会出现“口语很烂”的现象。
你读到英语She said that the hair on his head was growing back a little时，你大脑里是否会出现“英语之外还是英语”，即会说出大致如下的英语：Okay, he was bald,he had a bald head,etc.
这就是所谓的“音”“义”都必须是英语的例子。
从这里你可以看出自己英语的差距：
很多人：
习惯把英语“翻译”成中文来读，这样的“英语阅读”就把“音是英语的”破坏了；
不是不能把英语She said that the hair on his head was growing back a little“翻译”成中文的意思，而是不能“主动使用”英语，从the hair on his head was growing back a little这句英语中做到“英语之外有英语”，即“使用”bald,bald-headed这样的英语。
一个不能主动使用英语，只能把英语翻译成中文阅读的英语学习者，很难说他的英语在日常口语表达时，在英语写作时具备很强的表达能力和用词能力。
“音”“义”都必须是英语的，这正是我们需要不断加强训练的语言能力。
训练的第一步，就是养成英语阅读（默读）时“音必须是英语的”。
