人是有情绪的动物，因此时而欣喜若狂，时而抑郁寡欢，时而心如止水，时而心烦意乱，其中沉重的心情就是其中一种不好的情绪造成的，它指的是遇到某件比较悲伤的事情，或者经历着人生的低谷时期，心情愉快不起来，一直都是处于比较消极的情绪，像有一块石头压着心口一样，没办法释怀。

英语中形容沉重的心情的单词很多很多，常见的有 bitter，blue，broken-hearted，depressed，distressed，miserable，sad，sorrowful，unhappy 或 wretched 等等，例如：

He"d been feeling blue all week.

他整个星期都郁郁不乐。

She felt very depressed about the future.

她感到前途无望。

We are very sad to hear that you are leaving.

听说你要走了，我们十分难过。

His father"s face looked suddenly soft and sorrowful.

他父亲的面容忽然温和起来，充满了忧伤。

但是无论以上哪个单词都不能很形象或具体地描述沉重的心情，因为沉重的心情是一种五味杂陈的心情，不是一个简单的单词能淋漓尽致地描述出来的。

但是有一个短语可以做得到，那就是 heavy heart，它的字面意思是”沉重的心“的意思，可能来源于一个埃及神话，就是死后的人的心如果太重，就会被一个魔鬼女神吃掉，若是这样，则 heavy heart 被用来比喻沉重的心情，既形象又贴切，常用于搭配 with a heavy heart 或 have a heavy heart 中，例如：

With a heavy heart, we had to leave the funeral ceremony.

怀着沉重的心情，我们不得不离开葬礼。

After the occurrence of such a terrible incident, I moved on ahead with a heavy heart.

发生如此可怕的事情后，我怀着沉重的心情继续前进。

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved father.

我们怀着沉重的心情宣布我们亲爱的父亲去世。

I had a heavy heart leaving home, but I knew the move was for the best.

离开家我心情沉重，但我知道这是最好的选择。

在表达心情时，我们还可以用 mood，比如 in a good mood，意为”心情很好“，in a bad mood，意为”心情不好“，但是此时不好的心情有可能是沉重的心情，也有可能是生气和没耐心的那种心情，例如：

1. in a good/amiable mood，相当于 happy 和 friendly，例如：

She"s in a good mood today.

她今天心情很好。

The drink had put him in an amiable mood.

这酒使他心情愉快。

注意：in a mood 和 in a good mood 所表示的心情是相差十万八千里的，in a mood 相当于 in a bad mood，意为”情绪不佳“，此时 in a mood 中的 mood 是另外一个意思，意为”坏脾气，坏心情“，也就是它自带不好的情绪，而 in a bad mood 里的 mood 是中性词，意为”心情，心境“，因此在使用时要引起注意。

2. in a bad/foul/filthy mood，相当于 unhappy，或 angry 和 impatient，例如：

He"s always in a bad mood .

他总是情绪不好。

When he came back, he was in a foul mood

他回来时，心情糟透了。
