Ali ， who was a long way from ， wanted to send a letter to his wife ， but he could neither read nor write ， and he had word all day ， so he could only look for somebody to write his letter late at night . At last he found the house of a letter-writer whose name was Nasreddin .

翻译：阿里做工的地方离家很远，他想给他的妻子写封信，可是他既不识字又不会写字，并且整天都要干活，所以他只好在晚上找人替他写信。终于，他找到一个替人写信的人的家，这个人名字叫纳斯瑞丁。

Nasreddin was already in bed . "It is late ，" he said . "What do you want ？" "I want you to write a letter to my wife ，" said Ali . Nasreddin was not pleased . He thought for a few seconds and then said ， "Has the letter got to go far ？"

翻译：纳斯瑞丁当时已经上床了。“很晚了”，纳斯瑞丁说：“你要干什么呢？”“我想求你写一封信给我的妻子，”阿里说。纳斯瑞丁很不高兴，他想了一会儿，然后说道：“这封信要寄很远吗？”

"What does that matter ？" answered Ali .

翻译：“那有什么关系吗？”阿里回答说。

"Well ， my writing is so strange that only I can read it ， and if I have to travel a long way to read your letter to your wife ， it will cost you a lot of money .

翻译：“唉，我的笔迹很潦草，只有我才能认识，如果我要去很远给你妻子念信，那要花费你很多钱的。”

Ali went away quickly .
