首先，这两个词是用来表达不确定性，但是他们确分有各种不确定性的等级，也就是表达不确定性的程度。哪个轻，哪个程度深一些呢。说英语的人经常会用不同的词来表达不确定性，让我们一起看一下如何使用吧。

首先，may的用法

表达可能性she may be at home.

请求许可may I come in?

表达祝愿may you be very happy in the future.

May与might 的区别

Might是may 的过去式。如果你要表达对过去事情猜测要用might.

但通常might 和may 都可以，差别越来越小。

She may be going home.

She might be going home.

He might have forgotten the keys.

He may have forgotten the keys.

那么他们的差别是什么呢

如果要表达对过去的猜测，可是说话者知道说的事情实际上并没有发生，就要用might have .而不能用may have.

She told us that she was well, but she might have been badly hurt.她告诉我们她很好，但是她可能很受伤了。

不能说成she told us that she was well,but she may have been badly hurt.

Might 通常语气更委婉。

可能性的大小不一样。

May的可能性比might

间接引语中，要将may 改为might.

直接引语She said, I may go to the cinema.

间接引语she said she might go to the cinema.

礼貌委婉程度不一样

Might 比may 更加礼貌，委婉。

表达祝愿或希望时，may可以用来表达祝愿或希望。Might不可以。

不可以说might you be happy.

表达许可时，might 和may都可以，但通常会用may.

May I borrow your book?

Yes, you may.不可以说成yes, you might.
